Not a fan....
...of the US Citizenship and Immigration Office. (I'm pretty sure they don't read our blog, so I can say that!) I got all of our mail today, after being gone for a week, and had an envelope from the USCIS. I thought, "No way! How in the world did we get our I-171H back so quickly? That is so fast! Great!" Then I opened the envelope. They received our renewal application and stated that the new homestudy is not correct, according to their regulations. Also, they didn't tell me what was wrong, but that our agency should have also received a letter, and that they have the information about what is deficient. So.... on the phone right away to our social worker and she hasn't seen the letter yet, but would look for it. She called back tonight, and there is one sentence missing from our updated homestudy. According to USCIS, she did not specifically say that we are physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of parenting an orphan. She and I both think she said that in many ways in her report, but obviously not well enough for them. She will redo the homestudy, send it off to Chicago tomorrow, and then we will continue the wait for our I-171H. If we were expecting our referral this week, I'd be panicking, because we can't adopt without that document. But....that's not really a concern, now is it? :)
3 years - and a couple of days
Well, we passed that lovely milestone of our paperwork having been logged in for 3 years last Friday, 3/27/09. Thirty-six months - that's 4 pregnancies worth! :) Referrals should be coming out again soon - hopefully this week. The next day in line to get their referrals is very, very big, so predictions are that they might only get through that one day. One other little rumor said they might get through a week or so of LID's, so I'm not really buying into either one of those stories. We'll just wait and see and not get hopes up or down either way. Latest paperwork renewal
Not too thrilling, but very necessary.... :)
The next step in our required paperwork renewal is to submit another I-600A application to the USCIS, or Citizenship and Immigration Services. This is the main form that will allow us to adopt Audrey from a foreign country. The document that we receive with the approval of this form is good for 18 months. The first time we filled out this form, it expired in Sept. 2007. We renewed that, and it is now due to expire April 9, 2009. That's just a few weeks away! This time around, we have to submit another homestudy, a homestudy approval from DCFS, marriage certificate, birth certificates, etc., etc., etc. We have been waiting for the last of those pieces, the DCFS approval letter, which we got last week from our social worker. So my task today was to head over to FedEx at Kinko's, copy everything, and sent it on its merry way. We now wait for approval from the USCIS, which will come in the form of another document, the I-171H. We were waiting for this same document 3 years ago this month, before being able to send our dossier to China. This has all created a bit of deja vu!

4 is better than 1
Hello! Did you think I had abandoned my blog, due to excruciatingly slow progress in China? Fear not, faithful readers! Referrals have just been sent out from China again, and they include LID's through 3/6/06. So, that is 4 more LID's, which is better than the horrid original rumor of just 1 LID. There are 21 LID's left before it is our turn to see our little baby's face, and who knows when that might happen?! If they do 4 dates every month, we will need 6 more months to be included. If they do 2 days a month again, we'll wait longer. There is speculation that next month's referrals will be minimal, because there are many, many, many people around the world logged in on 3/7/06. Stay tuned! :)
On the paperwork front, we are waiting for some paperwork to be returned from DCFS, which we will then speedily turn around and send to USCIS, which is the United States Customs and Immigration Service. We have to have this renewal stuff to their office in Chicago before an expiration date on some of our documents of April 9th. Thanks goodness for FedEx!
In the meantime, we continue to pray for patience and for the ability to find the blessings in this wait. Some days that is easier than others. :)
